Obvious irony aside, I was personally greatly disappointed to learn the whole township wasn't re-cycled to ash. Don't know what it was like 'back in the day', but the last couple of time we've passed through on the way out to the rain forests and so on the joint has degenerated into a ******* toilet. BO and deadshit central. I took a short stroll down the main drag in January this year in order to procure a few maps and was offered no less than crystal, mushrooms, buds, and coke by a 'local' dressed like a midget basketball player. 'Do I look like I'm made of ******* money?' I snapped back gruffly, and continued about my business.

Place has been infected for more than 20years. Some fond memories, won't miss it though.

Nimbin is the next town over from where I live. Yes, it's plenty grotty but does have some redeeming features if you know where to look. I go there every so often for work, kid's sports, drink at the pub etc and it's never boring - you always come back with a Nimbin story.

Dave, next time, you can access the rainforests via Kyogle. It's a much nicer town.

Its sad, I too have fond memories of the museam and hanging out at the rainbow cafe. It will be intersting to see what goes up in its place.

Insurance job.
Though the actual owner lives in Sydney, the business involved weren't insured. Heard the owner of the museum interviewed yesterday. He said they don't believe in insurance. I wasn't really surprised to hear him say that if I'm honest.

I know it seems like a long shot, but I'm guessing a naked flame or ember was the ignition source..

I actually feel worse for the community who have to sit there watching their little town turn into a cash cow for drug syndicates. Nothing good can come of it.

anyway, before I say to much, I better slip over and have a squizz at the Site Rules..

Right then, in my opinion, marijuana should be legal in the same sense as alcohol. There, I said it.
And raise the drinking age to 21 while we're at it..

I knew a bloke that moved to Nimbin for a bit.
He was kind of alternative. Likes pot. Wants to build a straw bale house and farm hemp.
Nimbin severely out-hippied him and he had to move back home.

I went there once didn't rate the place... The bloke mowing the police station lawn stopped what he was doing to rush over and try to sell me some "sweet buds, sick mushies or anything else" it was all a bit overt and grubby. Didn't like it at all. Worse than trying to stroll along Russell street in Melbourne. That Jason bloke they all seem to be looking for ***** me too.

And bring back Bermuda shorts while your at it !
And pith helmets?

I'd like to see a revival of men with handlebar mustaches strutting about going 'I say' and 'jolly good'.

In Nimbin.

Nimbin has a reputation and I'm sure many alternatives living there are not happy with. It's sad that people trying to live a alternative life style, growing your own food and living with nature get lumbered with pot smoking.

Yes I have been to Nimbin several times, and yes every time someone offered me a bag. There are better places to live.

Last time we rode through there went into the park and found the ground littered with syringes, used to be ok, get a bit of bud and watch the ****** ferals come and go over a beer or latte but not worth the effort to stop there anymore.

Shame the fire didnt spreed over to Byron Pay and burnt that joint to the ground...
