Hey guys, managed to pick up a fridge for free yesterday.
I wanna be able to still use the freezer (oh well the missus does) and I wanna use the fridge to start getting into kegging, largering, and storing fresh wort for starters and fresh yeast cultures (will the cold temps upset the dormant yeast)
Got a few simpelton/newby questions.
Firstly I wanna chuck 4 taps in the door so up to 4 kegs on tap at a time, however I also wanna be able to larger in the fridge, Q1. Is it better to larger in a carboy or a keg if largering in a fridge?
Q1a. Untill all my new toys are set up can you brew a larger then store bottles and/or tap king bottles in the fridge for lagering or no?
Q2. Is it worth using say an STC 1000 temp controller to keep the beer cooler and the inside temp more consistent or is this bad as it may interupt the defrost cycle?
Q3. Other then cherry picking cornies at the LHBS where would be the cheapest best place to get some kegs from?
Also guys any suggestions on frifge set up for largering and kegging, any suggestions as to where and what to buy is all very appreciated.
Cheers

0. Larger = bigger than something else. Lager = type of beer / beer storing

1. Up to you, but I find it easier in a keg. Single transfer and once time's up, pour away.
1a. You can but this is a pretty deep question. Do a search on lagering in bottles (not largering, you won't get results)
2. It's a good idea for precise temperature control. You can configure the STCs to control the refrigeration cycle only by wiring the STC to the thermostat instead of the power cord. If you're using it as a fridge only though, I'd be more inclined to use the fridge thermostat to do the work and just adjust it down until you get the temp you want.
3. Buy swap and sell on this forum. Otherwise, keep an eye out on Gumtree and eBay.

Have a good look through the kegging setups thread for more inspiration than you could ever need. For bits and pieces, start with the forum sponsors as they have most - if not all - the gear you would need for the flashiest ghetto setup this side of a commercial brewery.

Ok cool.
1. To start ill get two cornys, I have a mini reg for 16g chargers on the way for my hacked TK. That reg will allow me to purge/ pressurise my cornys and larger some pils in my new fridge whilst I get the rest of the tap/kegging system set up.
1a. Can I use like a picnic tap with my mini reg to dispense a corney or is this just a waste of time?
ADDITIONAL QUESTION? is the general convinces to mass prime when racking to the keg or does everyone force carbonate? If forced will a mini reg with 16g charger achive this?
2. So youd suggest just using ot as a fridge off its own thermostat, a bit more temp fluctuations but you think itll be fine for a few kegs and that? (Not going to be fermenting in it, only largering and storing yeast, fresh wort and kegs ... mmm)
3. Ok cool ill keep my eyes peeled, im in no rush, for me it wount be an over night thing. im happy to end up having spent a few hundred however I just cant justify it all in one go if ya catch my drift, im gunna have to do step by step.
Whats a reasonable price to pay for a corney?

Cheers :)
