APA, IPA, Wheat?

Try the recipe data base on AHB here.

When it opens, click on "method", and select "kit & kilo". You'll get whole page of recipes to choose from.

You can do the same and select "extract", and get another page of recipes to choose from.

Really, only you know what you want to drink and brew, but have fun!

Yeah, craigo, as mentioned your question is a bit too broad. There are plenty of great recipes around here, if you keep reading you'll find something that takes your fancy. If that seems a bit too daunting give us a bit more to go on style-wise.

Unless you hate US hops, an APA is a welcome beer in most fridges. Easy to brew, fun to drink. Even if you miss your target by a little, it is usually still very drinkable.

I have a very easy one here.

How black is black?

Do you like brown, amber, orange, golden or pale?

Do you like German, American, English, Belgian, Australian?

Do you like malty, dry, fruity, hoppy, sweet or bitter?

What commercial brews do you drink?

What commercial brews have you drunk?

What have you brewed so far?

Have you been happy with it?

What would you change?

ive only brewed one beer so far im new at homebrewin it was a muntons blonde kit but i also used a malt exract and added a hops tea bag its been bottled but havent tasted it yet. I like a variety off beers i like all off the above you have listeded i like brown, amber, orange. golden and pale i like all countries beer out off them all i dislike the american beers the most. The comercial beers i drink the most would be carlton draught but thats because i live in the country abd thats the one i like the most out off whats on offer at the pub on tap ie,vb and thooeys new and xxxx. but i do really enjoy james squire golden ale and i dont mind knapstein either but im open to anything i just dont like thooeys old or guiness

If you like JS golden then try the kit version of Dr Smurto's golden ale.

I have to warn you though that the signature hop of JSGA is amarillo which is an American hop.

Otherwise try:

1 x tin coopers pale
1 x kg light dried malt extract
500g wheat malt extract (or 1 x kg tin liquid wheat)
200g dextrose

Add the two extracts and the dextrose to 10 litres of water and add 10 grams of pride of ringwood hops. Boil for 30 -40 minutes, add the kit and boil for another 10. Add to the fermenter with some homemade ice (boil some water, let it cool and freeze it in a clean container which you can seal), top up to desired volume (at least 20 litres) and let cool (covered) to around 20 degrees). Add yeast.

Read up about re-culturing coopers yeast from the bottle or buy some Safale US05 from your home brew shop.

Ferment at 20 degrees, when finished allow to sit on yeast for 3 more days. If you can put the whole thing in the fridge for 3 more days then bottle and prime as normal.

Should give you a 4-5%, extra hop bitterness, a nice maltiness without being cloying and a perceived dryness. Nice and simple but an introduction into some more complex aspects of boiling and brewing.

And while Knappstein is not an American brewery, nor is it an Ale, and nor is Nelson Sauvin an American hop... the taste and aroma of passionfruit in your beer is a pretty US phenomenon.
