OK, my first AG...

OK, so I added all the grain into the mash tun and started it all going. Was feeling pretty good about it all, going another step further, and all that. Left it for 90 mins as I usually do. However, as I was running the water from my mash tun, I saw this-

Aargh! I left the tap open!

I remedied this by adding dry malt to the boil- sadly something that I couldn't avoid...

However, I ended up with a SG of 1051, and it sits nicely in my fermentation fridge next to my other batches-

Saw what? I can't see anything in your tun, I think half of the image is missing.

Cheers :)

Edit added: Oh no. I've have done that before, actually with my first ag the other day, however, I think I may have only lost a half a litre or less.

I did that once with 30 lts into the fermenter. Had not checked that the plastic tap was still open. Ran the wort through the cfc, into the fermenter and onto the driveway, sad part was I was in the house at the time friggin round on this bloody computer !

Yeah! I did that once as well, running concentrated wort into my fermenter. Went bananas and just dumped heaps of extract into it. Managed to get a nice gravity and turned out pretty good, too.

So its still actually a partial then.Better luck next time with your second(first AG)

Peas & Corn ,

The problem of forgetting to do things properly when mashing is caused following the consumption of a quantity of beer , This is a big mistake depending on how much you consume .

one beer _ leave the kettle tap open
Two beers _forget to put the hops in at the right time
three beers _forgot the Irish moss tablet
Four beers _ forgot to add the crystal to the mash
Five beers _ realised used the ounces dial instead of the grams dial on the scales Six beers _ mistook the empty HLT for the kettle and urinated in the wort .

SORRY guys its late now

Did the first one today for the first time :( left the kettle tap open AND have NOT had a beer <_< there is the problem :super: only lost less then a cup of wort only because I standing next to it.
AG #17.

Update!

OK, the quasi-AG is in secondary, with all unhappy memories of taps being open forgotten. However, my paranoia regarding open taps has reached an all new high, much higher than after the first time I left the tap open. Where was I again?...

Anyway, yesterday I made my first proper AG. It was a Tooheys Old style beer. Not really a clone; what style is Toohey's Old? It's of that style- I used 35g norther brewer for bittering and 15g of fuggles near the end for a bit of flavour (but, admittedly, it won't have a huge impact overall). I also used Wyeast 1968 because the description of it on the panphlet sounded good (not really the best way of doing it, but that's how I discovered most of the things I know about ingredient flavour. I'm using northern brewer because I have no idea what it will do to the beer).

Looking forward to see how it goes!
