Mouldy Filter Cartridge

Hi Guys,
Opened my beer filter housing today to find some mouldy spots on the cartridge. After using a few choice words I washed the cartridge & housing in dishwashing liquid & after a hot rinse placed the cartridge in a solution of bleach. Some of the spots are still visible.
Am I kidding myself with these cleaning practices or should I continue to dream the impossible dream that all will come good?

Paul,

Is it a pleated PET cartridge? - If so just fill the filter canister with hot tap water & a teaspoon of napisan & leave cartridge submersed over night. If any trace the next morning, repeat. Finally give the cartridge a rinse in a non'rinse sanitiser, air dry, & store somewhere dry until needed.
