Hi Gents,
I brewed a Dogfish head IPA last week that requires extensive dry hopping, having made a s/s wire hop basket for the kettle, I thought "how would one go in the fermenter for dry hopping?" my logic was that if the hops were suspended in the wort with the wort able to flow around the hops as it saw fit, then all the better than having it laying in the bottom of the fermenter. Hence I give you the dry hopping basket

I sterilised it by letting it sit in my HLT for 15 min while it boiled.

I'll take a pic when I keg to let you know the outcome.

cheers

Thats cool!! Any problems screwing the fermenter lid on? I reckon you are onto something there?
Cheers

Looks nice browndog, but as Steve said, does the lid fit on ok with the basket?

Most excellent :D

Have you thought of a hop cage? This would hold the hops and sink to the bottom.

I don't use airlocks since I fitted a probe tube for proper fermentation temperature control so I leave the lid fairly loose so that CO2 can escape. That said though, I made the clips the same width as the lip of the fermenter and then nicked the top out of the lip so the clip sits flush. Screwing the lid on is no problem but I can't say I'd get an air tight seal.
Jye, I thought about that but decided that if the hops were sitting at the bottom they it may as well just sit on the bottom, my idea wa to suspend the hops.
BTW, that Dogfish is tasting great out of the fermenter, gonna be amazing after the dry hopping.

When the Dogfish is ready, it'll be time for you to collect some more hops ;)
