OK Guys after much deliberation ive decided that today is the day im gonna do an all grain beer , unfortunately it will only be a 12 litre batch as thats all my equipment will allow at present ,
plan is to knock up a simple aussie ale that ive "created" from a mix of recipes on here and elsewhere...

will report back later on this arvo tonight as to how it all goes...

let the games begin !!!

12 litres? after you do your first ag you will get a whole new system and use your old one to make your 12L starters for your mega-brews :)
Strage you chose a lager tho, your gonna have to wait agees before you can drink it!

Good luck buddy, I successfully made quite a few 20 litre batches with a 15 litre mash tun before scaling up. There are ways around a small set up

Best of luck Barra. Hope you really enjoy the day. Take it easy and if you come across anything unexpected don't hesitate to extend your mash or turn your boil off. This will give you time to relax and think any problem through.

Look forward to seeing your progress reports.

Just curious myself on making one of these all grains........
What do I need to get started equipment wise? pics prefered.
How much would it cost me roughly to make a AG? Ingredients wise.
Probally easy drinking recipe to start.
I spend about $30-$36 on Kit and extract.

I'll send you a PM jdsaint re your question. We better not distract barramundi from his first AG!

Probably a bit late now, but just make sure you allow for grain absorption, trub losses, boiloff etc. You don't want your 12L batch shrinking down to a 7 L or something!

:beerbang:

OH NO.

Does this mean I'm the only ISB'er left doing kits????

I feel lonely........... ;)

Good luck and dont panic! If u need help post here throughout the day.

I mashed in at 9.30am and im halfway through the boil ;)

Yep, you're the odd one out now, Gav.

Sure you don't want anything in the bulk buy then? You know you want to.

I'm sure it'll go well, Barra. Waiting for the reports on it all. As Fents says, let us know if you need some advice as you go.

well all seemed to go to plan , simple mash and sparge of 2.2kgs of grain in an 8 litre mash tun , boiled away nicely for the hour hops at start and end of boil... cooled using the crude kettle in a bucket of cold water method , then added a bit of refridgerated water to the lot in the fermenter, pitched yeast now waiting for bubbles to appear in the airlock....

OK so guys did i do anything obviously wrong ??

gav , better you come borrow this gear and knock up a mini AG sometime soon ... seriously its no harder or more time consuming than doing a partial...

Thanks to Paul and Ross At Brewhaus for their help in guiding me through it all during the past week too.... who's idea was it to put a brewshop on my daily path of dropping the missus and kid at work and childcare....also to my assist brewer for the day Matt aka brewer on here , he will more than likely be taking the jump sometime soon into AG

Process looks fine, Barra. The OG sounds close for a first go. What volume did you end up with?
