Melbourne Reception Suggestions Please

So im getting married in september 2008 and we want a winery wedding. Thing is me being me i'd love it to be a winery/microbrew wedding :beerbang:

So any suggestions as to where to tie the knot and party all night ?

We are seriously considering here because we live about 15 mins from there :

I went to a wedding at Montsalvat Chapel a few years ago and it was magical.

Not a winery but had weird atmosphere.

I kept expecting to see monks around every corner.

We are thinking of celebrating our 10 years there in a couple of years with another ceremony.

Wasn't there a new micro opening n the yarra yalley that was attached to a winery??

Edit: Well, I'm not sure if its a winery or not, but the place I was thinking of is Coldstream Brewery.

I cant get their website to load at the moment. But you can find a link in the Victorian section of the Australian Microbreweries list in the AHB Wikki. Maybe it will be working when you try.

In the meantime, here is a link to an epicure articel where thay are babbling about the fact that Coldstream are doing a cider. They also let slip with the fact that they have a reception center and other wedding friendly sounding facilities. Here is a link to the Article.

I know a friend or two who have married at the Big Hill Winery, not too far from Harcourt (on the way to Bendigo). Great function room, overlooking the vines.

You're also not far from the Holgate Brewhouse in Woodend, and for a treat you can blow out the credit card at the Lake House Hotel/Restaurant in Daylesford on your wedding night.

I went to a winery wedding near Stellenbosch, South Africa earlier in the year....my God, great stuff. I love a winery wedding. Good luck with the preparations!

^^^ The goat was my first suggestion to her so i showed her the goat website and she wasnt to keen. Whilst she's being pretty casual about it i suspect she still wants a tiny bit of that "magical princess girl" touch to it (seems like they are born for this), so a brewery in a factory inst gonna cut it.

How close to melbourne do you want to/have to be? there are a couple of thoughts in my mind but it depends how far you want to travel

Yep - they found the genetic marker for is a couple of years back

My sister was married at Inglewood some years back and we had a wonderful time there.

First to say i don't have any affiliation with these mobs - its actually probably about 6 years since i went to this one but as per the site it does have some princessiness about it - and does some very nice reds too -

finally and further away - but probably my pick were i to be getting married anytime soon would be - http://www.tahbilk.com.au - aside from teh fact that i drink my bodyweight in their products pretty regularly they have a really great [but cheapish] cafe right out over the river [if michelton's restaurant is open they are worth a thought as well] i can't find a good pic of tahbilk but trust me it is a very pretty place to be and you can encourage your friends to buy you Magnums of the 1860-vine shiraz as wedding presents [i was lucky enough to get one of these that i might crack for my 25th wedding anniversary]

hope this is of some assistance in a vaguely northerly direction - i strongly advocate visiting all venues in person [and any other venues you can find] you test the wines and the fiance can check for shrubs on which her dress might snag or whatever it is that princesses have to worry about

She made an honest man of me at Werribee Mansion. It's a really nice place and although just a short drive from Melbourne, has a nice feel to it. They understand weddings and the Shadowfax winery is part of the property. Might be a bit pricey though - we had just our family and friends, so a very small party...

Hey Fents, i can vouch for Tahbilk winery, its a great little place.

It was on Postcards a couple of weeks ago.

Go for a drive up there and call into my place on the way back for a few beers
