As part of improving my tasting palette I went googling for the Meilgaard beer flavour wheel but couldn't find any that had examples of what the descriptors were like. So I scoured the web for examples and decided to make up my own A4 flavour sheet so all the info is located on the one sheet.

I thought I would post it for anyone else interested in improving their palette.

Looks good, Chad. Were you looking for something like this? (wheel halfway down that page)

some of the science is a little old, for example the location of taste receptors on the tongue but otherwise a solid article. I must admit not always keen on plugging complex perception experiences into simplified models but this does at least give what is almost impossible a shot.

Good call on the tongue receptors, BB. I only recently read that the sweet at the front etc model is not true. Seems obvious when you know, but not before. Not a bad article other than that. I liked this bit.

The overall rating of a beer is where you can ignore the style and say what you really feel. Maybe you think it's not fit for human consumption (or perhaps only with a hot dog and chips). In contrast, there is that beer you are considering changing your middle name to.

So what's your beer middle name?
