Hi all.
Im finally getting around to making my first honey mead and recipe is as follows:

jasmine teabags
cardamon pods
dry ginger
1.5kg honey
champagne yeast

10 L batch

Do i ferment mead the same way as beer. (i.e) at 18 deg? and roughly how long does it take?
cheers.

i brew my apple mead pretty much the same as my beer, in the garage with an ave of ~24 deg C. takes around... id say about 10 to 14 days for the fermentation. just check now and then if the fermentation has stopped. i prefer to filter my mead before bottling but just because i usually have some mushed apples in the keg.

Its pretty much the same. Since you are not using any malt it might be a good idea to add some yeast nutrient. That will keep the yeasties happy and will also speed up fermantation.
Other than that same as beer.
Do your SG readings and when its finished bottle or keg.

ok jig. this is about the 3rd question in as many days where a search would have come up with results.

did you type mead into the search function? i guess not or you would have found this.

to answer your question. yes it ferments like beer. exactly the same? no. you probably need to do a little reading.

Use sweat mead or dry cider yeast - not champagne yeast.

i second what kenny is saying only use champagne if you want it really dry. i only use sweet mead for mine or 1388 belgian strain.
i ferment at ale temps.
