Im going to subscribe to a Beer magazine and I was just wondering what to go for. So I did a search and came up with ahem Beer magazine and BYO. I saw the homebrew chef talking about BYO and it did have some very interesting stuff although im guessing it's American and hence it will all be in U.S units of temp mass, pressure etc which is ok but a little tiring doing conversions all the time. So anyone subscribe to Beer magazine or any other Ausie mags?

I have a subscription to Beer Magazine and love it, just a pitty it only comes out every 3 months and not every month. 4 issues a year just isn't enough. If you haven't read a copy before it is about the beer scene in Australia and New Zealand and not just about home brew or craft breweries, altho it has a ~20 page section dedicated to home brew. They cover the basics in this section with out getting bogged down into nitty gritty stuff. Also a few recipes to try and an interview with a brewer which is possibly my favorite bit to read.

Hope this helps,

Drew

Edit: Josh is correct, I meant Beer and Brewer.

Are you talking about Beer & Brewer?

I have Beer & Brewer, BYO and Zymurgy. All three are pretty good. I'd say if you are more interested in homebrewing stuff, then BYO and Zymurgy have a fair bit more in them than Beer & Brewer.

As you've researched the other two, I'll just say you get Zymurgy by being a member of the AHA. Which doesn't benefit you directly, but it helps the hobby as a whole and if you go to the USA you can get some pretty handy pub discounts too.

Same here.
Beer and Brewer covers most of the Australian Craft scene and home brewing as well as some international stuff.
BYO and Zymurgy are both great, though I find that Zymurgy leans a little more towards the advanced side...and it presents better IMO.

Hey Gav,

I subscribe to a few. Here are my opinions.

Beer & Brewer - local content (obviously the one for local breweries/beers)
BYO - good publication, but havent subscribed as only costs $6.95 at the news stand
Zymugy - good as already mentioned
Beer - mentioned by mistake, but is actually a US magazine. Editorial aimed at the male reader, and features a lady holding a beer on each cover
All About Beer - US Mag, well written.

Cheers
Matt.

I subscribed to Beer and Brewer after the first issue. Was happy enough but have now let the subscription lapse as I've found the homebrew section is becoming more and more just a big extended advertisement for coopers, with very little (read: none) AG specific recipes. To their credit, I recieved almost instant feedback when I offered this point of view to them but I won't be renewing anytime soon as the response pretty much indicated the current format is what they'll be sticking to. For me, BYO is my pick.

For me, Beer & Brewer magazine is for the latest Australian beer & brewery news & I guess it is good that there is at least one Australian publication out there. BYO is a great overseas mag, and as someone once mentioned the advertisements can also be useful.
