Hi.... I am new to this forum and you have probably answered this question. Is there anywhere in Brisbane that sells LME in bulk????
Cheers
Nisloo

Couldn't find any during my kits n bits days. You could try ringing Mel at Brewers Choice Enoggera, she's got her finger firmly on the pulse and should be able to advise.

Any reasons you want LME over DME?

DME is much more versatile.

What is your understanding of the letters DME and LME?

As I said i am new to this site and I am relatively new at home brewing. I believe that LME is Liquid Malt Extract and DME is Dry malt extract. I have only used DME in kits and have had moderate success using LME from "scratch". I probably should have also asked is there anywhere in Brisbane that selld DME in bulk.

I just needed the distinction between Light Dry and Dry and Dark (but dry) extracts!
It's going to be around $8 a kilo, so not cheap! The sponsors can help you...

How much bulk? 5KG, 25KG, half a tonne?

Such amazing pedantry!

Impressive but not all that helpful.

Sorry Nisloo - just mucking about before, the difference between LME and DME really comes down to 20% moisture, otherwise they are essentially the same; just remember that that 20% doesn't add any gravity to your beer.
Any home brew shop should be able to get you
Coopers Light, Amber and Dark in 28 Kg pails
Blackrock/Blackfern Light Amber and Dark in 25 Kg
Wander DME in Light and Dark in 20 Kg bags (made in Switzerland)\
Muntons Wheat Light Amber and Dark DME in 25 Kg boxes
There are another couple of options as well.
But if you'r willing to spend the money the Muntons is far and away the best DME avaliable

Oi.

Told him where to get it from (answering his question). Gave him a conservative estimate, so he's not mortified at the bill (bonus info). And (thought you'd pick up on this), was baiting Nick JD.

Honestly, if you get a bit grumpy after a weekend's drinking, then remind me not to buy you any beer when we meet...

As far as the DME (eg light dried malt extract) goes, give Craftbrewer a bell as well (top of page) and ask them about the price on a bag of the one they stock, which is either 20kg or 25kg - unsure. If you are on the Southside you'll be in picking-up distance.

I'm not (that) grumpy and I do always appreciate a bit of Nick stirring but I do feel that asking a new(ish) user if he wants half a tonne of LME because he didn't specify how much he wants in the OP is kinda provocative.

Buy me beer? I thought we made the stuff?

Dude, It'll cost me about $60~$70 and there will be about 20 litres of the stuff, but if you don't want it... :icon_cheers:

I buy light dried malt extract in 5 kg bags

from Grain and Grape

even after shipping it's cheaper than my LHBS in Sydney

usually buying hops as well , same reason

Actually you should both be proud of yourselves.

Do you know, I've noticed whenever I walk into a pub I've never been before, everyone stops with the jovial good natured banter and fawns over my every whim, I am so overwhelmed with their kind helpfullness, I start to worry. Have I walked into some weird plastic Stepford cult?

Enough with the Political Correctness already... relax. Have a homebrew.

******* hell, folk sure are grumpy today...
