1- How far do u fill your Corny kegs up to? Should there be much head space?

2- How do you regulate two different carbonation level beers with one reg? If possible? I was thinking if you just did a quick forced carb on the lower carb level beer, say an Englisg Ale, and left the gas disconnect off and only put it on every now and then to push the beer out thus maintaining a low co2 saturation level.

I usually fill to the ring where the sides start to curl up to form the top. As I don't leave the gas connected all the time, having different carb levels isn't an issue cause I basically do what you suggest, just setting the initial desired carbonation level then topping up the gas to maintain the pour.

Im probably the same as crozdog when filling. Look inside the keg and you will see an upper weld where the keg starts to curl, I fill to here which is also before you get to the bottom of the gas dip tube.

One option you left out of the poll is dry hopping in the primary which is what I do and then filter to the keg.

If im organised enough, I chill the fermentor overnight once fg is reached. then keg it & hook up the gas & let it carb up at serving pressure for a week or so. if not so organised, disconnect the serving kegs gas & ramp up the pressure for a hours+ for the new keg. occasionally need to regas the serving kegs to restore serving pressure.

I fill the keg till just under the dip tube. I find the 1st beer is always warmer & frothy head, but the 2nd is cooler with a tight head, once the tap has cooled from the 1st :)

cheers

I dry-hop the keg, but instead of a bag, I use a Tea infuser (SS mesh ball that locks), stick the pellets in that, it sinks right to the bottom of the keg to the beer out tube, where the beer gets pulled up to the tap (well pushed up...). Adds massive aroma with small amounts of hops. it's still in trial mode, only just began this a keg and a half ago.

1) fill to just below dip tube
2) carbonate at correct level then attach gas when needed to serve

There was another thread that said you could get cheap air pressure regulators at Super Cheap Auto, I thought I might do that so I could have three pressures, one for Ales (10psi), one for Weizen (24psi) and one for Stouts/Ales served using a stout tap(8psi). I have not yet been to Super Cheap Auto to see what these regulators looked like, but the thread indicated that they worked well.

I couldnt decide on any of the options in the poll,
1) I sometimes rack to keg at FG, sometimes rack to secondary, then keg. Probably close to half half
2) Sometimes I dry hop in secondary, sometimes in a bag into the keg
3) I serve lagers/pilsners at about 3C

and I dont regulate different carbonations with one reg, I choose a middle ground with whatevers hooked up to the gas and stick with it. If im doing something that requires abnormally low carb or whatever Ill bottle it (when that happens anyway...). I have a balanced system in which I leave the gas on 24/7 and carb by just hooking it up and letting it sit for a week or 2 at serving temp.

Exaclty what i do, word for word...

I fill to the weld, and when it comes to carbonation- I pretty much have it at the same level for all beers, I really don't care that much :)

hmmm...hardly anyone is racking prior FG

Im wondering why...saves time and space.

Racking prior FG we call "green racking" green stands for "not yet ripe" like storing green fruits.

Thats what Im doing all the time, saves me time and space.

What Im doing with my Pilseners: let it ferment about 6 days, until the OG dropped to around 1014, then start racking. Leave it another few days at fermenting temp then decrease the temp everyday for 2C until 0C is reached.
After 4Weeks the beer is ready to get drunk.

:icon_cheers:

when dealing with pilseners or any lager yeast inspired beer i rack to secondary at 1020 and cold condition around 3c for atleast 2-3 weeks. if any dry hopping is done i do it then, but with any ales i fill a pair of the missus stockings with the necessary hops and a few steralised stainless spoons to make it all sink and bob is someones uncle! never had a problem or complaint yet. ales i leave until FG is reached then keg
cheers,dan

PS make sure you boil her knickers first, god knows where theyve been!

I dry hop with a s/s ball like Maple. I fill my kegs to the weld mark (ish). :)
