Im an american that visited Australia a few years back and we drank a lot of really good beer. ive just started homebrewing and my goal is to make similar tasting beers. the only names i can remember at the moment is hahn premium and victoria bitter and i was wondering if there were any recipes that would get me a brew close to that? i am also open to any really good local recipes too. thanks in advance for all your help :)

AG, extract or kit? Not sure why you would want to clone our beers, next we'll have somebody here wanting to clone Bud/Miller/Coors!

The essential ingredient is Pride of Ringwood hops for that "aussie" flavour - but most of us here try to avoid that!

There was a good recipe posted here by MHB for a "tooheys new" clone beer, have a search for that. Should be pretty close to what you want.

Welcome to the board....

5% unmalted wheat
35% unmalted barley
60% lager malt
Mash at 68 C for 60 minutes

POR to 18-20 IBU
40% of grist weight as sugar last 10 minutes

S-34/70 yeast brewed at ~10-12C
Lager 14 days at -1C

Serve to someone else

Actually im still working mainly in kits at the moment but i'll be branching out soon. i know i drank some really good brews that were not of the massed produced variety but i really have no recollection of what they were, i just know that your beer was an extemely welcome change from what i had been used to here in the states and since i cant buy them here, i figured i would make them :)

Our beers are pretty similar, just ours are probably more bitterly hopped. You could try one of the Cooper's kits if you can get them there, try the Heritage lager or Pilsner (Thomas Cooper's range) with 250g DME and 750g Corn sugar, use a lager yeast cold and lager it, or use some US56 dry yeast.
