Here’s a yarn for anyone who has thought of opening a bar.
Yeah, I know, there are lots of sound business issues to consider such as location, theme, booze, regulations, leases, staff, partners, 5-year planning, etc.
But you can also just dive in on the cheap and open a beer bar, ‘a local hang’, and change the world of music. That’s what muso Mike Grimes did on the wrong side of Nashville in 2000 when he spent $10K to open The Slow Bar.
Lot of lessons, good and bad, here from having a radar for what the punters want, letting fate and circumstances take a lead, overworking yourself, and getting some business acumen on board for the journey. And maybe how to crash and burn and still smile about it when telling the tale.
