So in a moment of sheer stupidity I accidently just pushed a rubber bung the whole way into a glass carboy. It is now happily floating inside. While I can rescue the contents without a drama I am at an absolute loss as to how the hell I am going to get the bung out??

Has anyone got any ideas???

A handkerchief in the carboy hold the carboy upside down and slowly pull handkerchief out the friction will pull the bung out

Also try the same trick with a piece of cloth

I have a similar issue but mine has been pushed in flush for 2 years.

I tried to pull it the other day and its stuck in the neck.

Im thinking a bit of SS wire bent into a hook to ge under it and pull it out.

If it was sterile, leave it in the wort and put another one in. Wait till the beer is recovered safely and then try and get it out.

Cheers

Hey yeah, in my sleep deprived state I didn't think of any of these :) Cheers dudes. Will let you know how I go once I get it out!

Does it have a hole for an airlock? If so transfer your beer and clean the carboy. Then use a straightened clothes hanger with the end folded back on itself so that it will pass through the hole then act as a barb to pull it back through.

Get the beer out when ready. Then fill the carboy so the bung floats. Get a hold of some artery forceps (often for sale on ebay, one of the most useful things I own), exercise patience and pull it out. If the bung has an airlock hole it will be a lot simpler as you can insert the forceps and spread outwards to get a grip.

Tony - what you need (again better if there's a hole) is a septum elevator or similar surgical steel dental/medical robust spatula. I've pushed mine in too far a few times and having this stuff around the house really helps.

Don't worry - I keep this stuff safe, next to the anaesthetist's mask and amputation hacksaw.

If you don't have forceps, make a miniature shepherd's crook from wire and hook it near the base. butt-plug.jpg

And next time, use a safe word.
