Hi Newbie here, have been brewing and having fun doing so for a few months with kits and starting to pimp them a bit with grain and HB shop hop pellets. Seriously thinking of growing the hops myself. Cost is not the driver, Im lead to beleive fresh hops cant be beaten for taste. Has any one had sucess in growing them in perth? and what should I look out for in buying the Rizomes if I can find them in WA. Saw someone in Albany was selling them on ebay but when I went to look later they wern't listed any more. So if you think I could grow them and you know where to get them please let me know.

Cheers Tom

Try Rupert [email protected]. he is the one in Albany you referred to.

You may have to wait another month but he did send me some cascade in late June.

We arent in the best location for hops but I've heard of people getting enough out of their second year harvest fro a few brews at with flowers in hopbacks or added at flame out. All adds to the fun of brewing.

good luck

Hi there,

I have a number of different plants, PoR, some Goldings and maybe some Columbus. I grow them for decoration as I'm too slack to pick the flowers and dry them out. I live in Dianella, the oldest plant is PoR and has been in for about 4 or 5 years. I haven't done anything special and I dare say there are far more knowledgeable hop growers than myself. Generally they start to re-shoot late in the year, about October November. They grow very rapidly for a few months then the larger leaves drop off and the flowers start to form. All up it takes about 6-8 months then they die off completely and if I'm particularly motivated (once every couple of years) I'll cut off the old bines. Hope this helps.

Hi mate there are pots for sale i saw on perth gum tree website. I think they where $30 per pot

thanks all, Will definitly look into the riozomes (sure to be female) from Albany. Might get them for the wifes birthday, tell her they will produce prized blooms in 10 years as long as the small flowers are removed each year and I will do the cutting off as part of the BD present. She can do all the TLC.
