My hop rhizomes turned up in the mail today, can't wait now for summer to see if and how many fresh flowers I get.

Anybody else getting rhizomes this season?

I've got a POR rhizome on order from Stewart in Tassie...

Is that where you bought too? Or Grumpy's?

Is it too late to order from him? If its not do you have an email or something for him.

Should really give one a go this year?

Thanks
Jason

I seem to recall in an email he sent that he was taking orders until the end of july. might be wrong

I've got 3 on order and he emailed me to let me know they'd been dispatched yesterday.

I got mine today that takes my little hop nursery to

cascade, chinook, hersbruck, tettnang or elsass (they got mixed up so I currently not sure what it is), goldings, victoria, cluster, perle, hallertau, tettnang, colombus, nugget, wurtemberg, precoce de bourgogne, tardiff de bourgogne and mt hood.

I ordered Willamette but it wasn't included in the order.

OK you hop guru's
I live in a area that is prone to some servere frosts, -5*C is common.
What hops, if any, will put up with these temps

Got My Tettnanger Rhizome today :D

I'll have to get out and dig up ,condition and spoil the soil in the intended spot this weekend, so it can sweeten up over winter ready for the spring planting.Meanwhile its the fridge for the "Triffid"

hops go dormant over winter, the frosts won't hurt them. I too live in a frost prone area, during winter -3 to -5 is common.

Like most plants, growing season frosts will harm them. I have mine setup on an dripper irrigation system with a few misters along it. When frost is predicted I schedule over night misting. this is normally only a problem with late spring frosts.

Hope this helps.

Gday guys...

I'm thinking of ordering more hop rhizomes...

I have 2 plants growing (haven't died back for winter at all!!!) from tip cuttings from Lukes.
They are Cluster.

What is something sufficiently different to this to justify growing?... (maybe 2 varieties)

I've tried doing some comparison on the Craftbrewer website but has anyone got any first hand / seat of the pants recommendations?

Cheers,
John

Bump.... suggestions anyone.

Was thinking Perle and Tettnanger...

Any support for Mt Hood / Hersbrucker / Goldings / Willamette instead?

Sorry, can't help you dark horse. This is my first year growing.

FYI I am in northern Tas, we get frost here in winter and yet it is ideal for growing hops. I believe it is the length of day ie. sunlight hours, that are needed rather than temperature.

I'm trying to grow Wurtumberger, Mt Hood and Hallertau.

Maybe this time next year I could offer suggestions for you.

Cheers
