Hi all,

Anybody tried to brew, or got any tips for brewing a beer similar to Holgate Old Pale Ale?

Cheers,

Sam

Well you could probably do a lot worse than give the brewery a call. Paul's a really nice guy, from my limited encounters with him. I don't know for sure, but you might even be able to score some yeast off him too.

As for wild guesses on cloning, I'd probably go Joe White ale malt, with a fair bit of JW crystal and a tiny amount of chocolate. Bitter with PoR (at least that's what it tastes like to me) and some Goldings perhaps for aroma. From this post by Merc's Own it would appear that the yeast is the Wyeast London strain.

This is a grouse beer when fresh on tap. It was probably my favourite ever beer back when it was on cask at the Brandon... For whatever reason it's just not the same on cask in Woodend. :(
