Hey all,

Just wondering if it is worth while putting finished homebrew into the 5L mini-kegs you can buy from places like dan murphy's. I saw a bitburger (or DAB, not sure) one the other and was tempted. are these usable for homebrewing, or just a one off use thing?

Anyway, cheers and beers,

plooky

the yanks do it, with the DAB style kegs search google for mini keg, they even have special taps for reusing them.

Hey plooky.

This world sure is full of co-inky-dinks. I was just thumbing through an old copy of the 1993 AusBeer #3 this afternoon, and they mentioned the very same.

"You will need to buy an extractor, such as the 'Beer King' brand .. to get the beer out of the keg."

Just Googled it, and lo and behold, they're still available.

Also seems to be available on eBay

Plooky,
I did it a couple of times 10 years ago. Worked fine then. Not sure if they have changed the cans since. If you do go ahead be careful not to scratch the can when you pull out the bung to re-fil. It will rust otherwise.

Only problem I found was I had to drink it fairly quickly or it goes flat. Good for English styles though.

cheers

I just pulled out the bung and bulk primed with slightly less dextrose than I would have used with the equivalent amount of beer in bottles, then replaced the bung. Worked fine for me.
