Hi again,

I am off to the big smoke again and am wondering if anybody can recommend some accomodation for myself and my wife and our 4 month old on the Gold Coast. We are after somewhere relatively cheap with a cot or bassinet being an important option. We are flying out of Coolangatta the next day so I was thinking of somewhere around Burleigh so we could go into Surfers for a meal in the evening and still be kinda close to the airport in the morning. We will have a hire car.

Beer is obviously a no go in this wasteland. I think I saw recently on a thread that the Pink Panther had closed so there is nowhere in this fine city to get a decent beer.

There is obviously loads of accomodation options on the Goldy and this is one of the things that is making it so daunting. I still have trouble buying a pair of runners, why couldn't the options still be the Dunlop Volleys with the only choice being if you want the blue trimming or the green?

Henno, when I was wandering around near cavill mall, I stumbled across a german club. I didn't go in and I can't recall the street, but maybe one of the locals may know the address. Surely you would have to get a good beer and feed there.

cheers

Browndog

Just googled german club gold coast and there seem to be a few of them, but could not see the one near cavill mall. this one looks good.

Last I recall the best you will do on the complete beer wateland that is the Gold Coast is the PA at Jupiters Casino:

http://www.jupitersgoldcoast.com.au/TOP_LE...AGE__The_PA.htm

They at least have a range of beers on tap that extends beyond most establishments (of which ofter the most exotic is Pure Blonde).

If you have a Sat arv free then try Burleigh Heads Brewery: http://www.burleighbrewing.com/ and I think they may have events on Fri nights too.

If you can spare some time to head inland then definitely go to Mount Tamborine Brewery: http://mtbeer.squarespace.com/ and, if still running, Eagle Heights Brewery: http://maps.google.com.au/maps/place?oe=ut...446925082800024

As for accom I have no tips there. I only venture to the Gold Coast for the annual AusCERT conference and regret the lack of decent beer every time.

Best,

M

Thanks guys,

I used to drive buses on the Goldy and can remember going past that German Club Browndog. I never stuck my head in there and there is no mention of there beer list on their site.

I also remember picking up tourists from a restaurant on Cavill Ave called the Bavarian Haus. Was that the one mate?

Have any of the Gold Coast boys stuck there head into either of these places?

The Barvarian Haus is pretty ordinary.

I think they had Erdinger and Lowenbrau on tap last I was there, but was expensive and food not so flash.

I went to the downstairs bar where the bartender was wearing an Aventinus shirt and I was hoping for some good beers to be told they were shut as the tourist group was just leaving.

Stay out of Surfer's anyway - it sucks.

While they won't have an extensive range - North Burleigh Surf club has a great view and Cooper's in the fridge and Fat Yak on tap. Casino probably the best bet now on the coast.

Have a good trip.
