I was going to brew a batch of my house tripple for the next batch but I'm enjoying my Galaxy PA batch a tad too much and thought why not go Imperial-;

I was going to process the sugar using the GLS candi sugar method to a pale gold which should bump the SRMs to about 7. Any thoughts or glaring errors in the bill?

I'm salivating at that Winkle :icon_drool2:

cheers

You could always combine the two and brew a Galaxy Tripel IPA :icon_drool2: And then send me a bottle to thank me for the suggestion! :icon_cheers:

What's the GLS candi sugar method?
I've got an Imperial IPA planned also but using my leftover American hop pellets, Simcoe, Amarillo and Cascade along with two sachets of US05.
I was gonna use 1kg dextrose to bump my alc/vol and lower my FG, perhaps there is a better alternative or method but I was planning on adding it at high krausen.

how about mashing at 63 and not using sugar?

I've got an american 2IPA planned, basically pale malt with some dark crystal and chinook for 60, 30, 5 and dry hop...I'm looking at 1.072 and 60IBU (just at the bottom of the IIPA style guidelines), but that could easily be changed to get the OG level you want....without adding sugar

I had a very similiar idea with my last galaxy pale ale, haven't brewed it yet but am looking at just 100% BB ale malt to 1.075.

Anyway looks great.

link look up homemade candi sugar in the methods section, i'll be going to the light pee colour then chilling and adding at high krausen. It'll give it a slight Belgian character but who cares, I'll probably mash around 67 - 68 C and use US05 , (I think - work it out tomorrow).

looks delish winkle.

me and my galaxy PA are also best mates at the moment. might give this one a crack in the next two weeks.

Just my opinion, but I would up the last hop addition (and dry hop) by at least 20gms otherwise looks great.

I'll think about upping the dry hopping Maxt. Just got to wack an order in for more hops & this baby is brewing on Sunday (unless we get up to 40 C by then) . I'll hang on to a bottle for you, Browndog.
Jayse - I was originally going to do a SMASH (just Galaxy & Galaxy) but talked myself out of it.

I would also up the 5 and DH additions to 30 gm, this should get you closer to an aroma like stone and wood. Below is my SMASH galaxy blonde for comparison.

Jye, my Galaxy APA started off with 20gm dry hopping but I found I was able to wind that back to 10gm without a really noticable effect, its quite powerful stuff. That said, the new season is 14% so the recipe did need a bit of oumph and the dry hopping might yet sneek up a bit (ie what is left on the shelf). I'm really quite keen on this recipe. Will also try the Galaxy/Galaxy APA SMASH in a few months.

I've got one last bottle of my last galaxy blonde, Ill bring it to BABBs thursday.

i wouldnt. I'd be carefull winkle these galaxy hops have a shitload of aroma. i just dry hopped 60L's of galaxy PA w/ 10G's of galaxy and it reeks of passionfruit straight from the fermenter.

if anyone has done this i'd love to hear it. i considered doing that also.

galaxy PA on tap at mine now if you like, not quite a smash, used some carared and some carapils with base JW ale but its all galaxy still. i love it.

I tasted this effort from Sinkas and was blown away :icon_drool2: .
There is a lot of Galaxy there though !
It's the next cab off the rank after my current batch of APA has finished with the yeast cake  .

I have made a stack of beers using Galaxy at the end (usually 20-40gms), and I never thought the flavour or aroma was over the top. 10gms in 60L seems waaay underdone for mine (depending on what you used in the last 5 mins). I'll be interested to see how it turns out in the glass.
