Fs: Beerbelly Hopscreen

Hi Guys,

Got myself a beerbelly standard hopscreen & pickup tube set last week & it's not really suited to my tall 50lt keggle & decided to use a copper pickup tube instead. I installed it on my brew kettle & then took it off. It's practically brand new. Retail $74.95.

Was browsing at their site only yesterday after the talk elsewhere about turnkey systems. That guy makes some slick looking gear.

Would this be of any benefit in a BIAB kettle, post mash ? I get too much trub going into the cube, so I wonder if this would stop it. In that example, is there a finer screen beyond the drilled SS?

I could be wrong but looks more for hop cones then pellets as the pellet trub would just go threw them holes. but I never seen one close maybe there is a finer mesh inside

I have on on my 70L kettle and works fine with pellets, your always going to get some go through no matter what but it does a good job. If you wanted to get more out of it i would think you could put some steel wool inside of there for extra filtering but i have not done this.

I've got one for plugs. I thought it'd be no good for pellets either, there's no mesh inside but it seems to hold an inch thick cake of pellets and trub after the boil still.

Curious why it doesn't work well, as I have a 50l keggle and had been contemplating buying one. I have a copper pick-up tube now, which is coming off a 1/2" stainless nipple that I had welded into the keg.

I should maybe just adjust it so that it picks up where the domed bottom meets the straight sides and write off the bit in the bottom (which is probably only (1l, including trub). I notice it is just strong enough suction to pull through a lot of break, even if I leave some hop trub behind.

Have almost been thinking that racking would really be the best and I could have left off putting in a nipple and valve. Racking with a simple hose would make cleaning and sanitation that little bit less complicated.

I siphon and i have been thinking about putting in a pickup tube. I've also been thinking of just using a long straight piece of copper (which i already have) as a racking cane and attaching the siphon to that. Would make cleaning it very simple, plus it would have the flexibility of ebing wherever i want it to sipphon from. I could even build my own hopscreen on the end (aka steel wool )

Hi Brian,
When I say it doesnt fit well I mean it's a tight squeeze in my A type keg due to the shape of the pickup tube & smaller circumference of the keg. It would suit better in a Sanke keg or even better in a round stock pot for which they are really designed.

Works a treat - pellets, plugs, flowers, 1kg of fresh ginger
