i was burning some frankincense incense on the weekend whilst drinking a few belgian beers ... i found the aromas quite complimentary ... even to the point that i sensed the presence of frankincense in the bouquet of the beer

was it just too many eight or nine percenters or was my nose right ?

i want to try some in a trappist style beer, and would like to hear from anyone who might have tried it before

how much and how would you use it ?

frankincense is a hard crystal, and i'm guessing would not dissolve in boiling water

does anyone have any ideas ?

thanks

As far as I am aware real frankincense is dried tree sap.

I would expect it to be extremely bitter. Did you try sucking some. ?

Maybe some Frankincense and Myrrh for a xmas beer

Screwy

You should perhaps bear in mind that when you burn frankincense it puts out a lot compounds, including benzene.

Im not sure if this is part of the resin terpenoids, or only produced as a product of burning.

the taste was slightly bitter, nothing like the aroma when burning it,

it was very greasy, kinda like the feeling a vanilla slice leaves on the roof of your mouth, took ages to get rid of the oily feeling out of my mouth

and boy did i have freaky dreams last night !!!

i dont think i want this in my beer, but might inject a ml or two of the boiled solution in a couple of bottles when bottling the next brew to see how it goes

how would add the gold ? :icon_cheers:
