Hi Guys, first attempt at a recipe of my own, any comments good or otherwise, will be taken on board.

1.80kg Simpsons Golden Promise Ale Malt
1.15kg DWME
225gm Crystal malt
225gm Caramunich malt
115gm Carapils
22gm POR @ 40mins
22gm Amarillo @ 20mins
22gm Amarillo @ 0mins
US-05

Have a 20lt plastic Lauter tun to break in on my second partial, not looking for high alc., a JSGA style, would i need the three specialty malts, just happen to have them in the cupboard, does it look like it would be around the 4% alc. mark, trying to work out beersmith.

Cheers

Without puncing the numbers myself I would say the amounts look good although I would probably drop the crystal a little. What trouble are you having with beersmith?

Cheers
Gavo.

Briby, I make it 3.38ABV. Forget JSGA the recipe and hopping are wrong, fit it to something else. To help with understanding Beersmith

Hi Gavo & Screwtop,
According to screwtop alc. 3.38%, i got 3.85%, which is what i would want, i know what to do to get it higher, i think, add 200gm DWME & 200 Ale Malt, according to beersmith should gain 1/2%.Does that soubnd right. Don't know where the difference is coming from.
Gavo, the ESB will be racked today, have to get another vessel, my cube doesn't have a flat bottom, too much wastage, hence trying to get this recipe right, to put in today or tomorrow.
Cheers

Briby, lot of extract and cara/crystal in this recipe. Over 16% dextrinous malt contibution, wouldn't expect attenuation of more than 65% from the yeast given this, finishing the beer high at 1.014 - 1.015. If your efficiency is lower than 70% then naturally the FG will be lower and the ABV will be more around 3.3%ABV

Briby I will punch the numbers tonight and compare. How is the SB smelling?

Screwtop only second partial, efficiency mightn't be all that good, or could drop some malts.
Gavo, smells yummy, can't wait.

Thanks Gavo,
Tried our main computer, file opened alright, might change a little to get ABV down a touch, have everything in stock, so will get stuck into it tomorrow.

Cheers & thanks

Hmm others may be better than me here but you could up the volume and mash a little higher, say 68-70 C. That way you will get the lower ABV with good body.

Cheers
Gavo.

Edit: stuffed up with mash temp.
