I am looking to make this in the next couple of days (maybe tonight)
My main question is on the grains. I used BeerSmith and have not updated anything to do with the usage of them.
Does it look correct? Basically the water is at 72.8c, add the bag of grain (cracked of course!). This then brings the temp down to the required temp of 65.6c.
To hold this at this temp for 75min seems long but I have no experience to compare with. ...apart from doing some roasted barley and that was for 30min.

Mate that is really hard to read....in Beersmith click on your recipe (without opening it), and in the split window shown below, choose "Brew Process TXT" from the "Report" drop down box. Then copy and paste the result back into here so it's easier to decipher....

I reckon I can tell at which point in the learning curve that I am at. Right at the rump of it! It all looks so confusing to me that I did not even notice that the ingredients were all mashed (pun intended) together. I am just going for it. I have the water on just now and just about to start the steep. or mash or whatever it is called. In a year I hope to look back at this post and laugh, and have a home brew!

is that better?

Cheers.
It is now in the barrel :)
Smells good. I also bottled my stout tonight and it tastes very very nice. B) Not watery and has a long pleasant aftertaste. Very pleased with that.

I did the hops and orange/corriander in a seperate pot to speed things up and then sieved them to remove the extra trub going into the barrel.
...Just about to chuck some cold water in to bring it up to 23L and hope that the temp is cool enough for me to pitch the yeast, or I am going to have to RDWHAHB (again!)

Don't pitch too warm you can put it in an icey tub of water to get it down to a better temp. Laundry tub and some Ice bricks works a treat

Cheers Flash. I am now sitting on my couch watching tv with a beer. I had a moment of clarity. I remembered that my fridge has an ice bucket in it. Pitched the yeast at 24 degrees.

My cellar is 9 degrees and have put a heat belt on it so all should be good.
