Thought I would post a couple pics of my first All Grain brewing day. Of course I was ably assisted by assistant brewer GMK. I have not really thought of a name for it (the brew) but for the time I will call it American Dark Ale. Know doubt Ken could probally come up with something.

Update 14/11/2007

Its now 11mths later. Out with the old in with the new :party:

Just another mention must go to the milk company for the crates. You just can't get enough of them.

good stuff man, how many L's does your hlt and kettle hold? hope the brew turns out good for your first ag.

The kettle would hold around 50ltrs comfortably, the hlt, I assume you mean the urn, holds 17ltrs. The mash tun, 6kgs of grain is enough and around 10ltrs of water.

Nice Work! i bet she'll taste lovely :D

just having a look at your pics, i've noticed your 3 ring burner is enclosed, does this improve heating the
kettle? also the air inlet vents almost look closed, is this the case? or are you getting the air from elsewhere.

Many Thanks rob.

On Ya BYB, are you scooping off the break in that shot"? Gota love the milk crate brew sculpture :D Nice Spot Noori, will be there after Easter for a few weeks in the van, staying near the footy club. Cheers

Welcome to the AG Club! Awesome!

I have a milk crate brew stand too... works a treat

The humble milk crate must be _the_ defining element of any home brew set up!

The burner is enclosed because the kettle is not only used for brewing but I also use it for cooking crabs and yabbies. I don't want the wind to blow the flame out on the beach. BTW I should mention the kettle is actually made of stainless steel. I was fortunate enoung to have assitstant brewer Ken (aka GMK) bring his electric wand along. That fired things up pretty well. I am taking a view to resurrecting my old kettle which is made of copper. The copper is a better conductor of heat. As fo the inlet valves that is still something I am tickling with. :party:

I live basiccaly right behind the footy club. May need to try a brew or two if the timing is right. Oh BTW way, for the uneducated it should be Nuri :D

Update;

Finally I will be brewing only my 3rd AG at home in 11mths. Have come a long way since my first set-up. (see picture) Got bloody fed up with make shift gear after only 2 brews. If the next few don't come up to scratch there may well be an AG system up for sale. I still have a bit of tweaking to do with the new system, longer hose's,larger HLT, cover for pump e.t.c But my biggest improvement I hope is from gas to electric + march pump.
