Congrats on your first AG, I don't know where I have been all this time but I completely missed your original thread and all the following ones as well :blink: .
Thanks for the credit with the recipe, I was very happy with my results as well and judging by your pics the color looks the same to.
Vienna Lager is a nice style and the extra conditioning time helps blend the flavours nicely, so keep those three if you can and see the difference.

Now the bug has bitten what's next on your brew list?

In exchange for an emergency grain crush, Steve kindly gave me a bottle of his Vienna Lager to try and now that I'm back from intensive care, I thought I'd share my tasting with you!! :ph34r: :p

He wants me to be brutally honest, so here goes!!

Seeings as its Steve's first AG, I had the diacetyl, DMS and fusel receptors on high alert, but fortunately there was nothing to be concerned about which is a solid achievement when you consider that Steve's obviously still settling into an AG brewday routine and he kicked off with a lager to boot.

The lager presented nicely in the glass, not overcarbonated yet having plenty of clean white head that sat on top of the copper / amber base. Taste was good - smooth and subtle which is typical for a Vienna Lager and the malt profile was quite balanced with virtually no tannin astringancy from the sparge and fresh grains (what brand of Vienna malt was it - Aussie??), despite the fact that I'd been drinking my relatively chunky Oktoberfest earlier that day. If I was to be super critical, I thought the hop bitterness fell a tad short - possibly due to the lack of alpha acids in the 90g of Saaz you bittered with - but it certainly didn't make the beer undrinkable. Perhaps a touch of Northern Brewer / Perle / Hallertauer MF at the start of the boil may help?

The grain flavour profile was remarkably similar to one of my favourite vienna lagers - Negra Modelo and I didn't detect any cloying aftertaste that can easily creep in. The fresh ingredients certainly made this an enjoyable lager and an excellent first up all grain beer.
