You did heat the tube up before trying to get it on, yeah?

I just boil the kettle and then dip the ends in there for 5-15 seconds as I need them.
 
I did heat them but I still must have been doing something wrong. It was hard to get the tubing over the barbs (despite flaring first with pliers / a pen) and by the time I'd got it on the tubing had cooled. It was like it was the wrong size tubing. They are on and clamped but they are not all the way up the barbs - I don't think there's any leaks though.
 
I used the missuses hair dryer. Turned him on the hottest setting and the tubing slid onto the barbs fairly easy by hand. Gotta be quick though.

The hair drier is a great idea, especially as it allows heat to be applied to the tubing even when it's already partially on the barb!

Will keep that in mind for next time.
