My fridge was near death and i was about to get a tobins thermostat. Luckly i know a fridge mechanic and he came over today and found out that the problem was not the thermostat but the gas.

He fixed it for some HB, and if anyone's frdges out there has this problem, The freezer is very cold and the fridge is about 15 degrees it needs regassing, not a thermostat. Hope this helps.

Oh and i decided to paint my fridge red for some reason.

If you put you hands on the outside of your fridge or freezer and it's warm then you no you don't need to regass it, if you feel the outside of it and it's cold then you probably need a top up.

That is a general rule to follow, but some of the newer fridges seem to be better insulated and they don't warm up at all.

Muga (or anyone else),
hoping I can trouble you for advice. I just got an old 400L fridge for my keg setup, freezer is cold as, Fridge is cold but not cold enough for my liking. A small space on the outside at the front of the freezer section is warm but the rest of it seem to be at room temp (though it is a hot day). It's a Phillips, coils at the back seem clean enough and get hot when the compressor is running. Compressor doesn't run for ages or start up as soon as it's stopped. Just doesn't seem cold enough. I'll put the thermometer in there now and see what temp I really am getting down to.

Mika_Lika, that was the problem i had. You need your fridge regassed.

What happens is the gas passes throught he freezer first meaning it gets cold and then there is non left for the fridge meaning it isnt very cold. Its an easy problem to fix.
