G'day all, I've just had a Mex Cerveza finish bubblin' and measured the FG 1004, OG was 1041 alchol content calc was 5.4 which i throught was just nice, but then i've gone outside to load the dinghy with fishing gear and booze and come back in about ten minutes time and the hydrometer had further changed to 985 which is 8%. So my query is what reading is true taking into account that only 1kg of was add to the brew. <_<

985 seems a bit unlikely. First, give the hydrometer a little swirl in the wort and try again. Bubbles of carbonation will stick on the outside of the hydrometer and give you wrong readings. And then you might want to check the hydrometer in water just to check it's calibrated right. (Should be 1000.)
