Hey Guys

As some of yo may have read on yesterdays post I spilt 15L of beer (damn carboy) anyway I bottled the remaining 8 or so L today. Had a taste and unfortunetly I think it's just a tad under hopped but still tastes good. It got me thinking, could you (or has anyone ever) add along with your priming sugar a single pellet of hops. Leave it to condition and carbonate as normal and serve when the time is right.

Friend of mine did that. Not recomended. The hops become a catalyst for the CO2 to percipitate on. When you open the bottle the foam basicaly explodes. And on top of that, there's no easy way of filtering the hops out so you'll be drinking them. Bits of hops stuck between your teeth aint that pleasent.

That beer tasted crap but not sure if that was the beer in general or the bottled hops.

you will get gushers mate.

You could do a hop tea. Chuck the hops in some hot water (or in a french press) - and pour in the hop tea into the bottling bucket.
 
You can give the French Press method a try if you need some extra aroma. Use a coffee plunger and leave the hops in there for 5 minutes to extract some aroma, then plunge it and pour into your keg or fermenter (assuming you have poured into a second fermenter here or you wont be able to distribute the hops flavoured water evenly quickly enough to trap the flavour.

The hot hop juice quickly cools down to the temp of the beer trapping the flavours, and then you bottle quickly to catch the bulk of the flavour.

Isohop could help here. A liquid hop. 2 drops per bottle. Never used it, but heard reports ranging from OK -> good.
 
I bottle into 2L PET, give them a few weeks, fridge overnight then decant into another clean 2L PET.

This leaves about 50-100ml of headspace due to removing the yeast. I often take a couple of plugs of some new hops that I haven't yet tried in a brew (patience is a vice) and steep them in 50ml of cold water overnight.

In the empty 2L PET goes the super-fresh hop tea ... and on top of that goes 1.9L of beer.

Best way to formulate the aroma/flavour end of your next recipe.
