Guys,
Those who have plate chillers what do you use as a cover for the barbed Wort In/Out & water In/Out posts on your chillers?

On my wort in I have a brass conector and silicone hose and water in cause its easy other I clamp on

Interesting to see what others do. The day before every brew I have a wet run to ensure wasps have not built in any of the connectors. To seal up the caravan water inlet I used a plastic snap on hose connector with the end (where the hose goes in) sealed up with silicone, that worked well. would need about 8 for the brewery and chiller.

That's explains your Brown Ale.

let us not speak of those brown ales ...

I leave mine open to allow it to fully drain - I worry that closing it in might invite something to grow in there. Not sure if they're standard on all houses but both my last places have had an angular row of bricks under the windows that if I place the chiller on it's end seems the perfect angle to drain it on. Having said that I can still give it a shake days down the track and get water out - thus me never closing it up. Mine came with 4 plastic caps which I don't use - they're similar to those rubber feet you find on furniture and I'm sure you could buy in Bunnings ono.

I have lately been boiling it on brew day, both to sanitise (sterilise, really) and to maybe give it a last chance to clear any gunk that the back wash and bi-monthly full wash leave behind.

Oh, and if they fall off the bricks they bounce - mine has taken two falls and apart from a bit of a ding still appears to work fine.

And while I'm rambling, I discovered on the weekend what a _huge_ impact flow rates have on the efficiency of the chiller - play with that.

AND I'm drinking my latest Brown Ale right now and apart from being too roasty for class is a bloody good beer - more brown Porterish really.

Lonte,

I'm no expert as I've only used the chiller twice now, but after back flushing/forward flushing etc... etc with PBW and Hot water several times and draining on brew day, I've noticed a little bit of water still inside the unit as you describe.

For this I have been flushing it out with CO2 using the line in my kegerator (just rip off the QD) at pouring pressure.

Seems to push out most of the water.....do it again next day...done

Oh - your most welcome to drop me off some Brown Ale. :icon_chickcheers:

I have one of those old rectangular ice cream punnets. I just leave mine soaking in a weakish solution of iodophor.
