Coopers to brew Brooklyn Lager.
I wonder how much of a fist they'll make of this one, given the pretty ordinary lagers that Coopers foist on us.
Going on the somewhat awful Coopers 63, the extremely naff Coopers Clear and the absolute travesty of Carlsberg I'm not holding out too much hope.

Coopers do some great ales, pity they don't, for some reason, transfer this expertise to lager production.

Hint to Coopers brewers: malt flavour, hops... try a bottle of Weihenstephan Pilsner or Urquell or even el cheapo Henninger then report back to the lab, there's good boys now.

Maybe the flavour in their ales mask the water they use? Might not be good enough to make lagers with.

I'm interested in trying at least...the brooklyn range is ace.

They RO their water.
According to sites such as Beer Advocate the Brooklyn Lager (which I've never tried) should be soft and mellow, not ****** crisp crisp crisp which seems to be the bleat of Australian Breweries nowadays and should have a nice floral aroma.
Hopefully Coopers will do a faithful knock off.

Yet another beer goes down the tube.. I'd better get a few now.

Surely they won't be able to follow recipe, the whirlpool will **** up for starters

Tis a lovely drop (visiting the brewery in a few weeks). It's a lager that doesn't taste like a lager, heavier, more ale like..

That's a bit boring, don't you think?

I had an invitation to visit the brewery last week Monday which included spending some time with the owner. Sadly I only got into New York on Tuesday, so I missed the opportunity. Got offered a few Brooklyn lagers over the following days but somehow always ditched them for supposedly better drinks.
If I had known there was such an uproar over them here I would have at least tried one.

Hmm I really hope they do a decent job on this, really do enjoy Brooklyn Lager on the odd occasion that I try it.

Would you say it's a Vienna lager, as per style?

Yep, it says so on their website.

It also says they dry hop it, which seems unusual to me for a lager?

decent enough beer, I was hoping Coopers would announce they'd be doing the brown ale as well, it's a cracker.

I believe some traditional Czech lagers are dry hopped with Saaz.

WRT Vienna lagers I understand they are a "back from extinction" resurrection of an old "style". Who knows what the original Anton Dreher beers were like in the 19th Century when they were brewed.
But if BJCP say they are a style, who can argue :p
