I think this is a stupid question but i'll ask anyway! :)

Instead of an ice/slush box, can you put a cold plate in a freezer or will it just freeze the liquid inside the tubes?

The reason I'm asking is because I'll be setting up a wunder bar (post mix) setup behind my new bar in a couple of months and wondering what the best way to run a cold plate will be without changing ice or freezing a cold plate rock solid.

I would guess that it depends on what liquid you are passing through such a thing. Is this to pass the beer through, or to pass another liquid through to cool the beer via exchange? If it's the latter, you can run glycol which won't freeze so easily.

If it's the former - isn't that a bit too cold?

Yes, if there is residual beer in the cold plates, the beer will freeze.

You just need a reservoir of glycol solution and a pond/aquarium pump to circulate it through the cold plate stored outside the freezer.

where'd you get the wunderbar from in AU and how are you going about getting syrups? I'm interested cause I want to set one up too!
