fixa,

Try a Schwarzbier recipe - then put four tablespoons of your favourite coffee through a plunger & add to secondary. :chug:

I love fresh coffee and added to the wort saves a lot of time , compliments it well.

I did a nice mocha stout a couple of years ago (I know you said you're not a fan, but this isnt too burnt tasting).

All you need is:
- 2 x coopers stout tins (or 1x stout and 1x something lighter, might make a less string tasting brew)
- steep some choc malt
- add a few shots of espresso

It's smooth and tasty, and easy to drink.

G'day fixa,

I'd say you'd need a roasty sort of brew so that the coffee is not out of place.
If U don't like stout, the type of brew is still open to the imagination, and you could use any one of a number of coffee brands/styles/roasts to acheive your beer.

For me, I'd think about some nice vanilla coffee beans in a vanilla porter or a Moccona-type freeze-dried coffee powder in a Dunkelweizen, weizenbock or maybe a Maibock, Doppelbock or a steam beer.

Probably a porter or dunkelweizen would be easisest to make.

Thanks, this thread reminds me - I offered to send my steam beer recipe to Tony, after a successful visit/tasting with MHB and Keith the beer dude!

Thanks for the replies guys..
will have to investigate those styles! :)

A great resource for brewers is the Brew Your Own magazine website.

They publish 8 magazines a year, and from each magazine a few articles are published on line, providing interesting reading for brewers. The online articles are building into a large library. The magazine caters for all levels of brewing, from beginner, kit, extract and all the way to ag.

Fortunately for fixa, there is an article on coffee brews.

Anyone else after more links, have a browse through the link section on AHB. It will keep any beer internet surfer busy for days.
