Is there a cheap way to obtain CO2 cylinders second hand? I have been looking on eBay and Gumtree for a while and they don't seem to come up - or they sell for close to full price. Does anyone have any suggestions or am I going to have to be patient and save?

Regards

Maybe search for keg on gumtree as they generally come or being sold with kegging gear. Got my 6kg one from gumtree locally.

Where abouts are you? Look at fire extinguishers, you can get them cheap and convert the lever action to valve for about $20. Try places that refill co2 ( not swap ) as you may be able to get used ones there.

What happened to the kegland comment? Did the breach the rules?

yeah, he's not a sponsor and was promoting after being told not to until he became a sponsor.
also rule nine states we do not allow tech threads to be come advertisements.

Theres a place in Clayton that sells the 6KG ones for about $199 and they do swap refills, you can find them on ebay I think the seller is something like triple rc model as they sell all sorts of stuff. Got mine from them and done one swap since, no issues.

My Mrs tried to get me a 2.6KG one from KegKing for Xmas but they have supply issues (probably related to their 'other' current issues) and they still havn't got back to her since so I think it must be ongoing

I’ve checked out Triple J before. They often have Keg King products for less then Keg King!

I hope Kegland becomes a sponsor as that would support this community.

Hi Everyone,
Back again and as a sponsor! We here at KegLand are proud to support the community and put the customer first in all aspects of our very new business.

In regards to this CO2 Tank discussion there are CO2 bottles available on eBay at the moment from a number of sellers if you're looking for 2.6kg & 6kg CO2 cylinders.

If you were to purchase second hand cylinders, you will have to make sure they are definitely Australian standard gas bottles with our Type 30 connector (there are some US ones that most fillers won't swap/fill). And within the required hydrostatic free testing period. Ranging from 5-10 years (depending on the gas bottle) of when the bottle has been stamped. If you have bought a much older gas bottle, gas suppliers or commonly fire stations will be able to hydrostatically test and stick a sticker for testing on the bottle for you for a small fee, giving you another 5-10 years of piece of mind.

I'd personally suggest having a back up bottle for those who dispense regularly. I guess my mindset goes the same with an LPG gas bottle for your BBQ, running out half way will always cause a stir with everyone involved! Having a backup means less of a headache at the end of the day :p

Mate where I live, one backup is a sure way to run out , 3x6kg+ and 3 soda stream for crisis!:hairout:
You can never be too safe right, and running out of beer during a test series ... well it just ain't safe!

Keglands prices seem very good, I'll be ordering a 2.6 for camping soon

Yeah, by a substantial amount too: SST Pluto Gun $55 vs $75, 2.6kg Co2 Bottle $150 vs $190. Last year's prices.

Hi everyone, long-time lurker here, about to venture into kegging master race territory. Seems most of the specialist suppliers (KegLand, Keg-King) are Melbourne based. Do you guys know of any kegging and/or gas suppliers in Sydney?

Speaking of which I was considering going with BOC and cylinder rental. Do you guys have an opinion about them or do you think I'm barking up the right/wrong tree?

Thanks all

Personally I went with kegs on legs, i believe that it was dearer than buying online but the ease of swap and go at any lhbs near me outweighed getting a cheaper unbranded cylinder shipped to me

I ended up going with Kegland. About $120 delivered within 2 days. I’m very happy.
Curious if it's the same OEM manufacturer as KegKing ones? And of the same specs, considering huge price difference ($80 more for KK's @ retail price).

Thanks for the suggestion. I was just wary of Kegland and Keg King as they're both Vic based, and I'm a bit fed up paying > $30 in shipping when I order something "big" from Kak. E.g. Getting bulk grain delivered etc.

Seems really odd there's nothing Sydney based that "feels" right to order from - or would gladly take a suggestion if any AHBers think I've missed a good firm.

My Kegland 6kg cylinder has Keg King stamped on the side where the volume and other markings are so I would say they are exactly the same.
