dear roundabout specialists,
i am going to be in canberra this weekend.

1. does the pig and when have the imperial stout on yet??

2. where's the best place to get fresh zierholz round the centre of town [preferably not in a frosted schmiddy?]?

3. are there any other micros available anywhere? (i know about APK) what happened to that two dans stuff?

4. where's the best bottleo for imports/micros? do you get anything we don't in sydney? i heard about that bus depot market - what do they have there?

2. Debacle had zierholz when I was there in march. No frosted mug either :)

Debacle was pretty good for beers in general.

I only went to the Wig, Debacle and All Bar Nun, oh and some dodgy rugby/tab pub that still had golden ale on tap so my knowledge isnt' that great.

Debacle had a good range. All Bar Nun was surprising for where it was and what I was expecting. Some micros and some minor macros as it where, Cascade, Coopers etc.

thanks for the advice.
Irish Red? If they've changed it from an altbier to an Irish red i'll be most disappointed/spewin!

Christoph's Koelsch was on tap at the Mawson Club just the other day....nice it was too!

Cheers,
TL

Duno

Try Kingston at the durham 'cause if you don't get it there you can go to the Belgian Beer cafe across the road for something different.

Griffith IGA has a good range, Plonk Manuka and the other bottle shop in Manuka.

do you get anything we don't in sydney?
That's a tough question as I have not been to every out let in Sydney.

i heard about that bus depot market - what do they have there?
Some food, eat there or take home, lots of arty trinkets and dust collectors. Good to waste an hour or two then walk to Kingston shops to the Durham, Filthies and the Belgian Cafe. After that, walk to manuka and you can get Zwich Polish Beer (don't trust my spelling) at JusQytly and go next door to Plonk for rare beer (Green Star Lager- tastes like good HB and some others). You can get a good feed in Manuka and then go to the other bottle shop (not liqueur land) near St George bank) for more rare and interesting beer to take home.

I have no affiliation with any of the places above, just live nearby.

Lil Squares and I were down there last weekend and the RIS wont be on till the(approx) 1st of July according to the board out the front of the W&P, but the rest were nice to work through

So a return W/E trip is on the cards

Another vote for Debacle here. Anything with Chimay on tap and Maisel's in a bottle is pretty hard to look past. The Zierholz was a plus, as was the absence of pretty much anything CUB (except pure blonde). The food was outstanding.

Edit: I just re-read your questions - I would trade a million years in Debacle for an arvo in Wig & Pen, RIS or no RIS. Prioritise...

thanks guys, excellent info. i will definitely get to the bottom of the beers in canberra. will of course work my way through the wig beers. do they still have their berliner weisse?
bugger about the imperial stout. that makes the third year in a row that i have just missed it. perhaps the brewer will take pity on me and let me have a quick dip in the conditioning tank.

thanks to all for advice, i went to debacle and the wig. debacle was excellent and i loved the zierholz beers. they had another one on called "Bald Brew Porter" which they said was made by Zierholz and it was great. really in yer face roasty. HOWEVER can somebody tell them if they're going to serve all these belgian and english beers and stuff to TAKE THE GLASSES OUT OF THE FRIDGE. jesus.
I didnt end up getting anywhere with the zierholz alt unfortunately but i will be very keen to try it soon. you are very lucky in canberra to have two really quality breweries.

the wig was great as usual. they had this IPA called "Hop Head" on through the randall which was really over the top! velvet cream stout and regular IPA also in very good nick.

anyway
