any other places, with other varieties. how well do hops do in pots. as all ways moving house

My first year Chinook in a pot gave up 250gms of dried flowers, however I think its recommended to plant into the ground for the second year. I imagine if you had a pot big and deep enough you might get a couple of years out of it. Has anyone continued to grow their hops in a pot beyond year one?

I've ordered a Perle and Mt Hood rhizone from Grumpys, more as a trial I guess.

Just wondering if when formualting a brew with home grown hops, do you just use the industry standard range for bitterness or should you make other adjustments when hopping?

Cheers

Nah last year i got my first rhizomes off ebay and some more off an AHB member "Lockrockingbeers" they all grew nicely in pots, didnt get a huge harvest first year round and am considering putting them in the ground this year if i can fine a suitable place.

Hi Kong,

I guess I was being lazy and thought I'd give it a try.Just rang them and put the order in. The Rhyzomes come direct from the grower.

I've bought goodies from them before and all has worked OK.

I was lucky enough to have been given my rhizome from Col at BYOAH in Canberra two years ago. Ive since taken a cutting and giving that to Trough Lolly. Im not really too interested in buying any more - no-where to grow them really. But if I was offered a cutting swap i'd be in on that.

Jagerbrau; according to the guys on the Brewing Network, you could grow hops in pots but they need to be wide, as the roots grow horizontally.

Funny you should say that Busboy because I read that they grow straight down, deep down. When I was pulling my tomato plants out in autumn I noticed all these new strange roots (obviously from the hop plant) growing horizontally along my vegie patch? Basically it would have to be a big pot.

its interesting have read that go down, also read spread out. might first year wack in a pot, and then pray to the mighty beer gods that i find somewhere perminiate to plant my hop roots.

Queensland brewers who are attending the July case can get in on an order now to be collected at our case meet.

I will need funds transfer before I place your order.
