Hi all,

Well I've just come back from the UK after 6 wonderful weeks. The weather could have been better but I had a great time sampling the local Ales and Cider.

Can anyone please point me into a good direction on any kits that you can use to make a British Ale/Cider?

I've done plenty of Pale Ales, but now keen to try something different.

Cheers

You might want to try looking at Munton's range of kits. Munton's is a British company, from all reports they're great quality kits and they do a number of British styled beers.

I have had success brewing extract-only British style ales. The trick is to use strictly British style ingredients, sourced from the UK wherever possible.

You might want to try something like:

3 kg LDME

200g crystal malt steeped

Challenger hops for bittering, fuggles and goldings for flavour and aroma

A basic pommie ale yeast such as Nottingham.

All available ex CraftBrewer.

Don't carb it too much, use finings in the bottle or keg, and drink it fairly young :icon_cheers:

Try a Coopers Bitter. They have a recipe on their site for a "Best Bitter". That's the easiest way of doing it.

My next brew witll be a Coopers Bitter, with 500g Saunders Malt  and 454g Tate and Lyle syrup.

I'll let ya's know how it goes.

cheers
Dave.

I gotta be a Real Ale naysayer - unless ye practise 'Thamesheitsgebot' (Marris Otter Malt, East Kent Goldings, English Ale Yeast, Water) you will and cannot get there no matter the efforts.

Go forth and mash that MO - there is no other way.

Scotty

I prefer MO, Styrians and a Wyeast English Ale strain of some sorts.

Cheers,

Thanks guys. I'll visit my local homebrew supplier and see what they have on offer. I'm leaning more to a Cider now, as cans of the stuff at Dan Murphs is high expensive.

But will et people know what I end up doing.

BTW. My Stout that I brewed a few months back has come out trumps. I left it in the primary fermentator for 3.5 weeks, before bottling. Has a good crisp coffee/choc taste. Just waiting a few more weeks before the Euro Larger is ready to drink (bottled them both at the same time)
