Hi guys, in Sydney now after a whirlwind tour of Newcastle and beers with the lads including Mark, Muggus, Schooey (pron. skoooeee I've discovered)

I won't be having a huge pub crawl, but will be doing a couple of sessions. So far:

Tomorrow 1pm I'll be at the Lord Nelson having a pint with Bjorn
>> evenign around 5.30 a couple of pints at Harts and a burger etc afterwards.

Sunday trip out to Manly for 4 pines, Murrays and a half litre at the BBC - Meeting my Brisbane mate at Circular Quay 11 am sharp all welcome if you feel like a trip out

Staying at Cleveland St Chippendale just one street from the Block, went for a midnight stroll around, not much happening there nowadays, nobody would bother mugging someone crazy enough to go there at dusk anyway. haha

cheers
BG

Have a good one Bribie. Make sure you get out a good ol Queenslander cry before you leave.

Cheers

Nice one! I'll see if I can drop by the Lord Nelson maana for lunch!

I resigned from my job today, so what are they going to do if I come back from lunch @ 3, sack me?

Great, I'll be there - hope it was an amicable resignation, PH and you are bound for bigger things. :p
Pollux contacted me, will be there as well - for those who don't know me I'm the distinguished drunk with a red nose and a white brush-cut and I'll be wearing the AHB green polo with the malt and hops on the front. B)
Too late for the Taphouse unfortunately, - doing laundry at the moment (or laundry is doing itself while I'm at the Internet kiosk) :)

Photographing around Redfern, Chippendale and Millers Point tomorrow so I'll be up for a couple of refreshers at the LN.

sounds like we will have a good session today!

I was by there last Monday with a mate and did some QA on the porter.
Yep, it's still good :D

Looking forward to it,
Bjorn

Good session indeed! I'm still Pished....... dropped by Harts Pub on the way back to the train and had a couple, they are fully booked for tomorrow night so that's off, but anyone for 4 Pines and Murrays, 11am sharp at Circular Quay for the ferry, still on. :icon_drunk:

Edit: Sunday

Excellent plan. I'll be sure to make it. Unfortunately the weather won't be as glorious as it was today.

I found the same thing when I was heading to sydney. I rang ahead 4 days and was told the few tables they have upstairs were fully booked so we went to Redoak instead. Perhaps anyone planning a meal on a friday at Harts may think to call a week or two in advance to secure a table???

On a side note, Ive been to Redoak a few times and have enjoyed my beer experience, I have even been on this forum singing the praises of this establishment. This time, not so much enjoyment. Whilst the food was good, half the beers they had on their list they did not have, it was bloody hard to find your way to the bar, and it seemed to me there were nearly as many ciders on tap as beers (nothing against ciders). I also sent an e-mail to ask about a sour taste in their stout as to whether it may have been brewed with Brettanomyces (as I was not happy with the answer on the night that it may be because the keg is nearly empty).....still no reply 3 weeks later.

Anyway, hope you a FAT time Bribie!!

Cheers

We did the Lord Nelson, I hadn't been there for years and remembered the beers as orange, chill hazed and frozen. The beer range nowadays is excellent, temperature is still way too low for UK Styles that they brew, but they vastly improve on warming. Had a selection of three sheets, Victory etc - very nice. Great to meet Bjorn and Scott for the first time, and Pollux who has grown another couple of inches taller since I last saw him, these teens just keep on sprouting nowadays :D
I've been reading "German Helles" on the train on the way down and been tonguing for a Helles - got into Lowenbrau on the way to the LN and savoured a half litre of Hofbrauhaus Original :icon_drool2: served at the correct temperature and carbonation. LN had Paulaner on tap, served at the incorrect temperature and way too fizzy, had a pint and it really shows how delicate beers like Helles need to be served spot on and not just pumped out like they are Pure Blonde.
Anyway top marks to LN for their Victory Pale Ale loaded with Fuggles and the Robust Porter. :icon_cheers:

Might hop a train back to Lowenbrau in an hour or so :icon_chickcheers:

You thought I'D grown???? You clearly didn't notice my daughter :p I swear she must have grown a foot since we were at yours last year.

Bmup

I see that the Manly ferries run on the hour and half hour, so to avoid confusion, anyone up for the 4 Pines etc then it's from 11.30 a.m. at Circular Quay to take the 12 noon ferry, propose a half litre of Helles at the Bavarian on arrival at Manly to cleanse the palate. :chug:

Yup Winkle there was a bit of rain for an hour at Manly but we were supping real ales from the handpump at Murrays, sitting on the balcony and watching probably the most dramatic storm I've ever seen

Murray's don't specialise in UK styles as such but they currently have "Punch and Judy" on the pump. The guy at the bar (pictured) said it's won a silver in a comp in the UK but didn't know which one.
I was at Murrays with Schooey and had a look at the brewhouse the other day, apparently they get nearly all their hops from NZ and their real ales are more along the lines of the Kiwi varieties such as Bitter n Twisted etc. UK breweries are also going into "Cascadey" hops as well, and yesterday's example was well within style for a Pint o' Bitter :icon_drunk:

Nice photography there Bribie, except for the weird guy in the AHB shirt and camo's  . You'll have to show me some of your work next time I drop in.

Cheers
