One or two doesn't hurt. Brewing is not that hard.

Three & four is probably a bit overboard.

too busy before the boil... manage a long neck or two
chill, aerate, pitch, stow away and clean up.
drinking time :chug:

Thats excellent advice about no beer b4 the boil... Will take on board.

I voted yes to both .I always have a few when brewing and yes i make mistakes but usually only small ones like forgetting the whirlfloc or the occasional hop addition and once in a blue moon leave a tap or two open.Worst one would be drinking a few too many before i fire up the gas and finding out its empty.

Cheers

Same here Big D, I am not sure I could brew two handed :p

Interesting to see how many of you refrain when brewing...great will power.

I do what ever I like when ever I like :excl: If I feel like a beer I'll have one, if I feel like ten beers I'll have ten beers, if I don't really feel like a beer I won't have one. No rules on either beer or no beer, I'am big enough and ugly enough to just go with the flow. :super:

Boozed broozed and broken boned.

I've only just started AG, and my NASA scares the crap out of me.

Therefore, no beer until the bittering hops are in and I know there's not going to be any dramas.

i got that pissed with one AG brew that i can't remember the last hop additions or anything past that point. the next day i went out to have a look and there's a nice clean fermenter full of wort, cool enough for a dose of yeast. beer was great.
after a while you turn into a habitual home brewer though and everything just happens.
an extra plug might get thrown in the flameout or forget the whirlfloc, but that's never stuffed a beer up in my experience.

I'm a bit like Jayse - I take it as it comes. Sometimes I start out not really feeling like a beer, then a bout halfway through the boil I find I've had 3 pints.

Once I overdid it and forgot the DME, the Irish moss and the final hop addition. I forgot to aerate before pitching and pitched at the wrong temp. The beer turned out fine, if a little lighter in alcohol that I had originally planned!

Cheers - Snow

I'm not into AG but I reckon I'd be hitting the beers all the way through it...
Even with kits and partials I still forget things even without beer.

Sounds like too long a time to not have a beer to me...

Oh and when around aspros while he does his AG, we knock em off from the first ball of the innings :)

I don't brew beer just for brewing beer, I brew beer because I like drinking beer.

if you want to forget the whirlfloc, a couple of beers is the perfect way to do it.

Yep, if I get boozy I get distracted and I forget the whirlfloc and late editions.

So I try the no brew till boil rule but sometimes.

I never really had so much that I got completely wasted and rendered myself useless... But I have forgotten the Whirfloc addition a couple of times!

I usually brew in mornings and wait till the boil, but when I brew at night I'll havee a couple.

Damn it - I'm doing it arse-up.

Normally I have a few/many and SWMBO made comment that it was surprising that they turned out OK (Yep - I've forgotten the Whirfloc etc)

So the last couple I've done absolutely straight.

Bugger me - one of them, a Mild I make quite often turned out too sweet and the American Wheat had noticable Diacetyl. Then, to add insult to injury, SWMBO suggested, after tasting the American Wheat that maybe I should have a few while I'm brewing, just to get back on the straight and narrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I once rolled down the Mick Bolt Pre-Memorial 3 in 1 hill (my old back yard) at midnight with 5kg of steamie malt and water ending up all over us after a drink n' brew incident.

Lesson to be learnt, malt at 80c stings and dont have half a dozen at Rays prior to mash in!

I like the odd tallie or two - I've used beer for inspiriation on all my experimental brews - with only one disaster. I bottled a week early! Kaboom! :D

Who brews or bottles after a big night?

Last night started brewing @ about 6pm, after about 3 longnecks, and by the time the beer was done @ midnight I was pretty damn blotto, however I checked my check list as I stumbled out of the house this morning had completed all the steps - even the whirlific tablet, so either I am pretty damn good or just got lucky.

Only thing I did was substituted 20g of Armirillo for Cascade for the 3rd and last hop additions. - Dont know why but assuming it was a great idea @ the time.

2 asprins + X beers = result....

Some of the results i'm very happy with, others I just drink.

I can't believe how many of you guys have rules and regulations in your own brewery, and made up by yourselves!

You need to chill-out,I imagine it must be the city lives and jobs you all live.

I don't know what to blame, the schooies or the laptop and this forum.

But tonight I missed the 10 min to go hop addition and the koppafloc so I decided to extend the boil all out a bit. Fortunately I don't think it'll affect this beer too much. Fingers crossed.
