I would have thought the smells were good for a whole range of insects, not just fruit flies; it's just one report cited there, so maybe there's been research into other yeast's relationships to other insects.

Pretty funny, though, how we're enjoying flavours and smells that were designed for insects. I'll have another pint of fly bait, thanks...
