Maybe I'll switch one day, when Photoshop/Illustrator under WINE don't suck so bad. I was using Linux for ages in Canada, but moved away once Mac OS X started sucking less and felt a bit more snappy.

Macs are definitely the best option for design related work, strictly because if something dies it's almost always hardware-related.

Playing IT-guy and helping users with Windows problems is NOT fun. Windows is too intrusive/obnoxious from a usability point of view, it gets in your way even when things are working.

Inkscape kills Illustrator pants down. Photoshop CS2 runs fine on my PC through WINE, I'm not running anything special (2GB RAM, Dual Core Intel @ 2gHz).

I haven't done this but if you install Darwin ports, or fink, you should be able to install wine. Then you can run your windows software without a vm or a reboot.

I've already attempted Beersmith under Darwine... everything worked except the HTML rendering component. I tried the Moz HTML lib thingy without any luck.
