Vocals easily make or break a band for me. That's the main reason why I can't listen much to smiths, bob dylan, you am I, smashing pumpkins, Tex Perkins or a lot of Mike Patton stuff.

There's a lot more good musicians than good vocalists mate. That's why most of the artists you named also play rythm guitar, because their song writers and insecure about their voices.

Oh I know that. More than 50% of my music collection is either vocal free or contains very limited vocals. There's a lot of bands who miss it with the vocals who still produce amazing, influential music (Patton is one mentioned above, Bob Dylan possibly another).

I'm just saying for me - if you are going to have vocals as a prominent feature, both the lyrics and voice treatment need to work or I struggle to immerse myself.

Bit like a lead actor in a movie needs to act well - I will struggle even if it is brilliantly written and directed and the supporting cast are amazing.

Wonder how many cartons Missy Higgins will buy...

Haven't seen them in a number of years, but they were a cracking live band in their day.

Rogers could be annoying and arrogant, but has written some great tunes.

Movies can still be great even when the acting is shit (George Romero springs to mind).

As you You Am I... Great band band the vocals can be grating, but that makes it a little better to my ears.
Tim Rogers has also been singing pretty well lately (especially with The Bamboos).

I agree about their new stuff being a bit crap, but I'm a sentimental sap at times, so their old albums still get a turn around here. Awesome songs and can't wait for the concert.

Not sure about the gimmicky beer, (which is a bit wanky) but if it's any good, then it'll be judged on its merits.

There's always exceptions. If I could make blanket rules to which there were none, I would rule the world.

If I ruled the world, everyone would watch romero, fulci and argento and complain that their new stuff was shit compared to their old.

Well their upcoming tour is their "old stuff" not their "new stuff". Playing HourlyDaily and HiFi Way.
I'm hoping the beer is on tour and is new and not old. (& not Tooheys)
