Apparently making over 22lt a week is not legal? Well so this article I stumbled across implies???

"Home brewing was legalised in Australia under Prime Minister Gough Whitlams Labor government in 1973 in fact, the home-brew law was one of the very first among a raft of new legislation introduced by the highly reformist regime. Before that, it had been legal to make beer at home but only if it was around 1 per cent alcohol (in other words, gnats bladder weak).

The exact wording of the new law introduced under Whitlam allows home brewers to make 22 litres of beer per week. Of course, thats more than enough for any individual to consume but, really, this is only a guideline and I dont know of anyone who has ever been prosecuted for making more than the allowable volume."

I'll ask my brother in law whos just graduated at the AFP...Hes coming over on the weekend for beers and watch me make a lot more than 22 litres (3 brews).

you'll have no problem steve, guess it depends how technical you want to get with it ie:

Make 100 litres of homebrew
In fermenter for 2 weeks
In bottles for 4 weeks before consuming (i know this never happens lol)
that means 6 weeks to make 100 litres is far less than 22 litres a week

:)

thats just an excerpt. each state and territory has its own liquor laws, its no longer a federal law (Im not aware of any federal liquor law other than trade regulations, tax, excise etc). From memory AFP juristiction doesnt cover liqour laws as they are state owned. AFP covers federal laws (except in ACT where the AFP is local law also).

not that too many people acutally make 22L every week.

I dont beleive I actually spend 5 min searching my law stuff to check if I was wrong. thats 5 min I could have been thinking about brewing beer rather than 5 min thinking about limiting beer production

Im not a lawyer but I have access to a good legal search tool.

After a quick search the only thing I can find is prohibition of home brew in certain community/council areas in QLD.

Cheers,
Andrew.
