Ive always been interested in making my own labels, but wouldn't know where to start or what to use as such.

Has anyone done there own labels, and if so, how did you do it?

I'm not after anything too fancy, i guess oval shape, a picture, and some writing around the outside and then what it is listed down the bottom of it.

I do labels for my bottles. No picture or anything just some text with the name, style of beer, abv and bottling date.
I just use word to make the labels and print about 30 per page.
I stick them on with milk.

I use powerpoint and print to A4 label sheets i bought on ebay.

Check out Cooper's Home Page. They have an on-line label making program.

Only did it once. Used traditional paper style avery sticky labels. They were a total PITA to remove once the bottles were empty. Don't do it using labels intended for large envelopes or paper.

Others will be able to give you a point in the right direction as far as removeable labels go.

I also use Powerpoint and print on plain A4 paper on a monochrome laser printer. 6 or 9 to a page, depending on bottle size. I use a cheapo guillotine to cut them out, then bog standard glue stick to stick on to the bottles.

Labels come off really easily when bottles soak. I tried the milk thing to start with, but had loads of labels fall off so gave up on that.

I try to keep the designs simple, but try a new font or two every time. Loads of great fonts at http://www.dafont.com

All my labels so far are at http://drjimsbrewery.weebly.com/brews.html

Really? Don't they smell bad? Doesn't it make the ink bleed? Does it need to be full cream?

I use the sticky labels and as thedragon said they suck to get off so I'm interested in an alternative, will give milk a go with a couple of bottles next brew.

Off topic, but i must say, i really enjoyed looking at your site Jim. I see you have some good updates to put in there, especially links, but i really enjoyed how much info you put into the method of your brews.

Good stuff
Thanks! I've got a bit more lazy of late, but it's been a good way for me to keep track of my brews.

Seriously, give the UHU glue stick a go (or Pritt Stick if you can get that over here). Comes off dead easy with a little water.

Great site Jim.

You've either built up a massive stockpile of beer, or you have a liver that hates you! Cheere
