i have developed some light blue flecks on the surface of my pilsner in the past day or two. its been in its secondary for 3 weeks now. i am guessing they are mould of some unpleasant form, bugger!
any chance i can siphon off well under the level and leave plenty behind and get away with it or should i consign the lot to the drain?

It doesnt sound good, and I have succesfully spihoned away from under a layer of pediococcus before (that fermenter is no longer in use), so i would have to assume that you should be able to do the same here, especially if there is only one or 2 dots of it. As you said, I would leave a fair bit behind, but if there are blue dots in the next one, you will have to pitch the lot, as it probably means the spores have gotten right through it. At least you have nothing to lose, and 2/3 of a batch to gain by siphoning.
All the best

Draw off as much as you think you can without obvious visible signs of infection. Put the reserve back into the conditions you've set up for fermenting.

Then take a sample from the reserve and keep this at room temp for a day or two. If the blue spots appear, I'd dump the whole batch.

panic over guys, i moved my secondary upto the kitchen to rack it off into a second secondary, and noticed that in the beter light the spots were not blue at all they were just small clumps of yeast! dont i feel an ass! thanks for the feedback tho. must get some better lighting in my cellar!!!!
