Three weeks ago I was tossing up between KensCom and AllQuip for a 50l ally pot for my first AG full sized batch. I think prices were about the same so I took a punt with Kens Com Kitchens online.

I received a confirmation mail right away, and told to expect a 2-3 days for delivery.

Two days later my credit card was charged, so I assumed that it was on it's way. A week later I bought grain thinking it would be just about to arrive.

9 days after ordering I see in my email:

Thank you for your order, unfortunately there is no stock of this item until Monday 25th September. I will send item on Tuesday 26th and it takes two three days.

Fair enough, I'll have to wait. But why did they carge my card right away and then wait a week to tell me they had none in stock?

So the 2nd of Oct rolls around 7 days since it was supposedly going to ship, still no sign of it. I fire off a polite email asking it it had been sent, thinking it may just be stuck in the delivery system.

The reply came late yesterday.

I have contacted the manufacturers to confirm order being sent.

As soon as I find out details I will email you.

It's nearly COB in the daylight saving states, and it's not here and I have had no reply.

I realise my order is small fish.

I guess the purpose of this post is to perhaps prevent others from being caught up in the same. Not really a negative review, more of a hint to maybe try allquip if the price is the same.

Having said that, maybe they both deal with the same manufacturer and I would be in the same boat either way.

The bad news is that the vacuum seal on my grain didn't survive the trip home. So 2 week old cracked grain, and still no pot to brew it with, despite have paid for it weeks ago. What to do?

Zizzle, I hope your pot eventually turns up. Charging your credit card without the goods doesn't seem right to me.

Do you have a few pots? Or at least one of a decent size? You could do the mash and boil in a few batches, splitting the hops appropriately across the batches.

Or seal the grain up and store it cool and dry, the fridge would be ideal if you have the space.

Hi Zizzle,

My brother and his wife bought me a 60l aluminium pot from a different catering equipment supplier for my birthday (not Kens Com). They searched out a number of different suppliers and could not find one that had the 60l pots in stock. This was a few weeks ago. They placed an order with one supplier who promised to get the pot but it didn't arrive on time. The supplier has agreed to send it directly to me so I head home everyday after work hoping that this will be the day it turns up! I bought a nice new burner yesterday and can't even test it out properly...

I can't comment on Kens Com, but I think the shortage of large pots is widespread. I don't really have time for another 2 weeks to do my first AG, so I won't be too upset unless it hasn't turned up by then. Here's hoping the pots arrive soon!

cheers,

Andrei

Zizzle eventually got his pot as can be seen here though it took him another email or two.

I bought mine from Allquip and it arrived in about 4 working days. There website is a little easier to navigate and I'm not sure there is a huge difference in price betwenn these two companies.

Cheers

There used to be a big diff in price - not now though. If you are in Sydney allquip has a shopfront too, on Burrows Rd Alexandria, right near the corner of Canal Rd.

I noticed the other day that Ken's are no longer advertising the larger ally pots in their online catalogue, just the smaller capacity pots up to about 30 ltrs, and up to 40 ltr ally sauce pots that are shallower and wider.

nifty

You sure? First item on this page http://www.kenscom.com.au/Cookware/ is a 120L ally pot?

Edit: Looks like they've increased the prices again!

Hi,

I posted earlier in this topic... it turns out my sister-in-law DID purchase my 60l pot from kenscom (I thought it was another supplier). Anyway I just got a SMS from the Mrs to say its turned up today - yay!

Like you Zizzle, kenscom took my sister-in-law's money on order, and then delivered over a month later. If I were ordering another pot, I would shop around for the best price AND a place that has it in stock.

Might just have a play with the new burner and new pot tonight...

cheers,

Andrei
