Hey all

I'm looking at putting down a US-style porter (something like Sierra Nevada Porter, or Anchor Porter) soon and wouldn't mind some feedback on the recipe below, if you please. Is it balanced enough (at all?)? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers

ToG

I was gonna play this one fairly straight down the line. But I am planning a Denny's Bourbon Vanilla Porter soon after this.

Looks delicious to me. Sorry I can't offer any advise but I'm curious about your bittering additions. What's your logic behind the 5g of Northern Brewer?

Thanks Boagsy. To be honest, I can't see much sense in 5g of NB FWH. It was a bit of a leftover from mucking around with the recipe. I think that I'll either up it or drop it.

Just looking on the Sierra Nevada website and I see you have the same hop and malt profile, not considering the NB. If you was to delete the NB you would also have about the same IBU's I reckon. What's your expected FG and alcohol percentage?

Looks good ToG. I made the SN Porter this year and loved it. I will do it again in a few weeks/months and I won't change anything.
Thanks Razz. After a lot of trawling around I think it was your recipe that had the most influence over what I have posted above - It just looked right.

Cheers

I would be expecting this to finish up at 1.010 with an alcohol level of 4.7%.

Sorry for the grave-dig, but how did this turn out TunofGrunt?

I think Willamette is a good choice. Other good US porters like Deschutes use Cascade as well, but not too late in the boil.
